Club Spotlight: Commuters on the Go – Getting Involved in Campus Activities!

For commuters, a drive to campus may look like waking up at 7:00 A.M. and trying to find parking before their 8:30 A.M. class. Others may have night classes after a full day of work or even reside on campus and have to use the shuttle to commute from the other side of campus. While commuting may look different for everyone, it is important for students to have spaces where they can get involved, find resources, or have a place where they can go and have fun. Commuters on the Go aims to help students with all of the previously mentioned.

“Anyone is welcome to our meetings, including residents because they are also commuters,” Savannah Spinelli—the Vice President & Catering Chair of COTG—said, “Commuting looks different for everybody, and for residents, it may be walking to class from across Lake Fred or coming all the way on a bus from Atlantic City. On our board, we have Nicole Clifford, a resident on campus. Anyone is welcome and we are happy to have you at meetings!! We can’t wait for you to join us every Tuesday from 4:30 P.M.- 6:00 P.M.!”

At the meeting that was held on Tuesday, September 29 on the Galloway Campus in room F118, the club started the meeting off with a brief slide show that went over a piece of Osprey Wisdom, E-board information, and then a fun activity. The piece of Osprey Wisdom this past week was that there were federal work study programs on campus for students who have filled out their financial aid application.

The room was filled with people talking about their day, conversing with new people, and painting pieces of artwork. There were people passing by that stopped to say hello. After the event, the Exucitive Board was able to answer a couple of questions for students to understand about the club.

What separates the club Commuters on the Go from other clubs on campus?

Spinelli responded, “Attendance is never mandatory; you can come and go as you please. We also have different themes each week, and we are always looking for suggestions, especially for food. Each week, we have food that goes with our meeting. I like to say, ‘Have dinner with us!’ We try to do something different each week, and we never have the same meal twice. It also isn’t always pizza. We’re also a place for commuters who are looking for community and a place to hang out. We are commuters for the commuters.”
