GALLOWAY, N.J. — September 21 was the second Monday of Fall 2026, which meant that the 27 recognized Greek Chapters of Stockton University came together once more for the Meet the Greeks event, each chapter hoping for new members who will click with their cliques and make the Stockton community stronger than before.

Every semester the sororities and fraternities set up tables, make fliers, and ask students to sign up for their groups. These groups often have special requirements to join, such as maintaining a high grade point average, following their philanthropies, and remaining loyal to member expectations, in exchange for opportunities to attend social events and gatherings such as this fall semester’s tabling event.

“I felt very at home,” chairman Luke Wegner elaborated why he joined his fraternity Sigma Pi (Iota Upsilon), chartered in 2016, whose brotherhood is dedicated to raising money for men’s mental health making community service fun according to Wegner, “In a way I was lost when I was new coming into the college, and then meeting all the guys [in Sigma Pi] really welcomed me and a couple of my other buddies in and developing great friendships with all these guys.”

Connor Fresco who was also tabling for Sigma Pi elucidated on becoming a part of their chapter, “I’d say also just meeting the brothers first when coming into the school is a little hard, and then you meet the right guys and they just bring out the real you and it gets fun so you stick with that throughout your college careers.” According to Wegner, their chapter partnered recently with the Saint Baldricks Foundation to fundraise research for childhood cancer with 400 brothers shaving their hair for the event.

The sisterhood sorority Zeta Phi Beta (Phi Mu) was chartered in 1984 in Stockton having dedication to volunteer work in maternity, spreading awareness on disease, promoting diversity, and protecting women’s rights. “We value excellence in education, our sorority having one of the highest GPA bars (3.2) in Stockton’s chapter for entry” according to vice president Kyla Marshall, the group taking pride in their education.

Their chapter on September 12, a week before the event, partnered with the Midtown Community Development team to clean litter off the streets of Atlantic City, active even prior to the Meet the Greeks event. They also handed out white roses to students across campus this past two weeks to spread cheer for the new start of the 2026 fall semester. 

The ”Pretty Classy” executive committee of sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha (Pi Chi/AKA) were also busy early this semester with their Saint Mary’s Community Gardening event in Pleasantville, NJ this past September 12 to support their black and brown communities in getting fresh affordable food right next door for healthier neighborhoods. They also had an informational September 23 where they invited men to take part in a “Mister Ivy” contest six in the evening. They also have a live radio and event on Friday on WLFR 91.7FM in collaboration with DJ Ny for “Ny’s World” for those interested in R&B, Gospel, rap, pop, and reggae genres at 4PM. 

The Stockton Sigma Sigma Sigma (“Epsilon Epsilon” or better known as “Tri-Sigma”) chapter this semester had a table as well with the purpose of showing up for their fellow chapters in support of their work. According to the Tri-Sigma president who showed up to represent their organization, they were “not allowed to enlist new students into their chapter despite there only being two active members out of the recorded twenty two students who had graduated last spring.” This resulted with their low member count and the university’s refusal to fund their chapter under a “low-standing” policy, preventing them from creating new events that can fund children’s emotional support resources and making therapy programs for pediatric care accessible and affordable. Support for the Stockton Tri-Sigma sorority can be done through showing interest in becoming a part of Tri-Sigma’s chapter and philanthropy, as well as contacting the Office of Student Development about the issue.

On a more positive note, chapter Delta Epsilon Mu (Alpha Pi/”Dem”) were happy to share their plans to run a blood drive this December as the campus’s Pre-Professional Health Fraternity according to the chapter’s Director of Prospects, Shannon Powers, hopeful that they can share the event on a large scale.

With the mission to invite students to be prepared, responsible, and successful to graduate and carry on their learned experiences and skills as professionals in their medical fields and journey. “I was a transfer student from Rutgers New Brunswick, and I felt it was so big there that I wasn’t seen, and so when I came for the experience here [Stockton University] I started looking for community and I would get emails for events like Delta Epsilon Music Night and so I went there,” described president of his chapter, JJ Ferguson, “I found a clique I wanted to be a part of, an organization I wanted to be a part of, and it really makes my time spent on campus worth while outside of my classes.”

All of these sororities and fraternities at Stockton have active Instagram accounts with more than 27 recognized chapters chartered in the university to explore, as well as events that can be discovered via the OspreyHub portal. Their members are hardworking and always make plans for big events with public service, creating solid networks of professionals and providing activities for their fellow students even outside of their chapter lives.

Almost every “Meet the Greeks” Event takes place on the second Monday of a new semester, and after students might walk around their tables collecting ink stamps on a bingo sheet, the Campus Center Event Room floor becomes an active dance pit where the chapter teams both dance off and later engage in the Cha-Cha slide together, making it a fun night for social butterflies and introverted caterpillars coming out of their cocoons.
