Celebrate WLFR’s 42nd Anniversary at Lake Fred Radio Fest

Galloway, N.J – WLFR 91.7 FM is hosting Lake Fred Radio Fest to celebrate the station’s 42nd anniversary at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, October 16 at the Lakeside Lodge, Stockton University. The event will feature live musical performances from multiple musicians, vendors, and food trucks.

Lake Fred Radio Fest is a free to attend event open to students and the general public and will have live performances from local New Jersey artists: Malcolm Tent, Samantha May, Soup, Starikova and Deardarkhead. The event will also offer canoeing on Lake Fred.

WLFR is a non-commercial radio station that went on air in 1984 and began web broadcasting in 2004. The station is a part of Stockton’s School of Arts and Humanities and offers students the opportunity to DJ and host shows, providing new perspectives and music that you won’t be able to hear on commercial radio.

From Theo Elefante, a second semester DJ at WLFR; “WLFR has created multiple opportunities for me to discover a community with talent, creative expression, and friendly faces. Being a DJ on the station has led me to not only discover super awesome music but also expand my perspectives on the college experience.”

Mariella Negro, the WLFR Community Manager, adds “I genuinely believe in the power of college radio and how it completely transforms people’s lives. We have the responsibility to promote music that isn’t typically found in other places and give people the opportunity to be discovered. Also, with college radio we are heavily involved in building community inside and outside of Stockton and this anniversary party gives us the opportunity to invite the community for an evening of shared love of music.” This event is a celebration of WLFR’s 42nd anniversary, but also a celebration of music and the community that music can be used to make.

Third year student Jo Kelly, who is entering their 4th semester of being at WLFR added “When I started college, I did not think there would be a community that I felt like I belonged in. I joined WLFR randomly and discovered a surplus of like-minded individuals and amazing life experiences. This station is contingent on our community and these people taught me who I want to be.” WLFR has enriched the lives of multiple students for over forty years and Lake Fred Radio Fest is a way to celebrate the many benefits that WLFR has provided to the student population as well as the local community.
