Figuring out where to start when seeking a job or internship can sometimes be the most challenging part of the search. Indeed’s search engine may be the place you start this week! Indeed allows for nothing short of a comprehensive job search. Aside from guiding you to the most relevant search results by keyword and location, users can benefit from optional job alerts. This means that any positions you search, such as “full-time intern” or “business manager”, can become job alerts that inform you of all new positions posted each day.
Be sure to save job posts as you search! Indeed will store them for you under your “personal account” tab in the upper right hand corner of the home page. Remember to check the tab right next door, the “Messages” tab, to stay updated on messages sent to you by employers.
Curious about other Indeed users’ experiences at a specific company? The “Company reviews” tab at the top of the home page will answer many of your questions. Just search a company name or job title along with your chosen location to check out users’ Pros and Cons review section and Indeed’s work satisfaction scores. Ratings on varying areas of job satisfaction, such as “Culture” and “Job Security and Advancement”, are all within your reach.
“About” sections are detailed for any company you search, which is especially helpful if you are unfamiliar with a given company. If you find a company of interest, check out jobs located nearest you in this section to find out about current positions. Salary estimates are also shared for these various positions, which are based on Indeed advertisements, employees, and users.
The “Find salaries” tab located next to “Company reviews” will not only provide its expected salary information, but will connect you with job openings and suggested skills to pursue a given career. You can explore by industry for a broader search, too!
The Indeed Career Guide, a “hidden gem” of Indeed, is located at the bottom of the “Find salaries” page under the “Explore Indeed” section. Click on “Career Advice” to tap into a world of job resources to support your search.
The guide supplies users with job search resources, resume and cover letter writing tips and samples, interview advice, and more! In this section, Indeed also informs users of what they need to know before beginning a new job and ideas for career development. Scroll through articles regarding pay and salary, “Editor’s Picks” from Indeed’s Editorial Team, and career advice for different industries. You can also search several career paths under the “More” tab using the search bar or from Indeed’s extensive list!
Stay in the Indeed Career Guide to create a new resume or improve your current one through the Resume Builder feature. Visit the “More” tab, click on “Resume Samples”, then scroll down to the blue icon titled “Request a Resume Review”. Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will the find a section titled “Use our automated, instant report feature”. Here you can retrieve a free automated report on improving your resume after you scan your current resume to Indeed!
Don’t forget that the “Certifications” tab under the “Explore Indeed” section is available for your exploration. This allows you to search for certifications you may need for a certain position and where you can complete them.
This is simply an overview of the features and resources Indeed has to offer students in their job and internship search. You will find there is plenty more to learn about within Indeed!
