On Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 7:00pm in the CC Coffeehouse, the Stockton Entertainment Team held a competition to select who would have the honor of being the 2023 opening act for SET’s Woodstockton event. Very few seats remained empty in the audience by the start of the performances. Although each competitor gave an impressive show of talent, not everyone could be awarded the privilege of opening for Yung Gravy.
Seven acts graced the coffeehouse stage; The Goons, Gavin Russel, Shane Moore, Jesus, The Neanderthals, Frogs from Rome, and Drain Cleaner. Each performance was received with a roaring round of applause from an enthusiastic crowd. The audience enjoyed renditions of songs from the likes of Maroon 5, Rihanna, Aerosmith, and even some original works. Student Senate President Brianna Bracey gave some insight into how the selection process works. “We have three different categories that we all judge on,” she said. “The first is organization… Additionally their appearance… as well as originality.”

In the end, two bands were selected as the winners. The Neanderthals and Frogs From Rome will be opening for Yung Gravy at SET’s Woodstockton on Monday, April 3. “We were very excited to play our song because it’s something that we practiced for a long time, and it’s just gotten better and better as we practiced it more,” said Evan Carr, the drummer of Frogs From Rome. “Going into the competition we were really excited to show everyone and we’re glad that it brought us out on top. We hope to bring that same energy when we open for Yung Gravy.”
Anyone wishing to catch the opening bands and Yung Gravy’s performance can purchase tickets at the Information Desk in the Campus Center.
