Galloway, NJ – On October 10, 2026 WLFR hosted Lake Fred Radio Fest to celebrate the station’s 42nd anniversary. The event was hosted at the Lakeside Lodge at Stockton University, Galloway and featured live performances from local bands, vendors and various student organizations.

WLFR’s 42nd anniversary marks a huge milestone in a time where college campus radio stations are being shut down. One such college radio station was Cleveland State University’s WCSB 89.3 FM, which was taken off air on October 3, 2025 after the university transferred the station’s control to Ideastream, which replaced the diverse student-run programming with Jazzneo, a 24/7 commercial-free jazz service. Student-run college radio stations provide students with a space to create and share their experiences while attending college and experiencing the world on their own.

WLFR has offered students on Stockton’s campus this space and opportunity for 42 years, allowing them to express themselves, meet new people and make new friends.

The event featured 5 live performances from local musicians and bands, including, Samantha May, Soup, Malcolm Tent, Starikova and Deardarkhead. As well as offering canoeing on Lake Fred, multiple vendors including the Stockton Maple Project and Castone’s Bees. Various organizations were also present at the event such as S.A.V.E., Stockton’s camping club, and AC Film Club.

After the event concluded, Mariella Negro, WLFR’s community manager said “Honestly, this event was truly a legendary afternoon, against all odds, everything worked out. For a hot second, I really didn’t think people were gonna show, but the community showed up and supported us. And I’m very proud of all the students that helped make this event possible, and I can’t wait to do the next one.” Lake Fred Radio Fest allowed for students and the local community to all come together to celebrate the station’s anniversary as well as appreciate the local bands and organizations that came out as well.
