On Tuesday, November 15^th, 2022, Stockton’s Speech and Hearing Club, a chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), participated in the “Do Good With Chipotle” fundraiser, which took place in the Chipotle Restaurant on Wrangleboro Road in Mays Landing.

The members headed to the Chipotle restaurant after their usual club meeting to have dinner together, presenting an opportunity for the current members and new members to connect with each other. While most of the members have majors specializing in Audiology, Speech Pathology, Speech Therapy, and other related fields, there are some other members with completely unrelated majors or minors that simply wanted to contribute to the cause. Everyone enjoyed a hearty Chipotle meal together, getting to know one another and making new friends. Through the fundraiser, the club successfully raised $144.87 for Speech Recovery Pathways, a non-profit organization whose goal is to support adults that suffered strokes, brain injury, or aphasia through speech therapy.

Riley Vaughn, a junior in Health Science with a Concentration in Pre-Communication Disorders (Pre-CD) and the Vice President of Philanthropy for the Speech and Hearing Club, thought that the Chipotle Fundraiser “was a great opportunity for club members to bond and hang out with each other outside of the classroom… We appreciate everybody that came to support our fundraiser and we will definitely plan on doing another one in the spring semester!”

Amanda Lonergan, the club’s historian, is a senior majoring in the same career as Vaughn. She shared Vaughn’s feelings about the event. “It was so great to see everyone from the club come together outside of our meetings! We spent almost 2 years meeting on Zoom, so I really appreciate these in-person times to get to know each other,” Lonergan commented.

The Speech and Hearing Club meets every other Tuesday in Room F119 at 4:30 p.m. Their last meeting of the semester will be on November 29^th.
