On Wednesday, November 16th, the Coalition for Women’s Rights (CWR) in collaboration with the First Ospreys, hosted an event to celebrate Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week at Stockton University’s Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Center. Coalition President and Stockton senior, Yamirah Williams, gave a presentation made by the First Ospreys highlighting food insecurity, specifically in regard to college students and those living in the Atlantic City area.
Along with several other organizations, the CWR is hosting an event designed to raise awareness of the dangers of hunger in the Atlantic City area. This particular event is meant to teach students the definition of food insecurity and its categories, while also providing resources for those who may need assistance in getting sufficient food on campus. Along with the presentation, CWR members were also collecting donations of food, clothes, and hygiene products for Stockton’s Food Pantry and AC’s Covenant House, which they will be doing again on Wednesday, November 30th.
Students in attendance were also able to contribute by creating hand-drawn decorations which are going to be displayed on the boxes given to both locations.
Stockton’s celebration of Hunger and Homelessness Week continued through Friday the 18th, but there are plenty of other opportunities to give back that both the First Ospreys and the CWR will provide throughout the remainder of the fall and spring semesters.
