On Thursday, November 3rd, 2022, the Omicron Beta chapter of the Delta Zeta sorority and the NJ Rho Sigma colony of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity joined together to host a fun and spooky Haunted Walk on the Dark Path of Stockton’s Galloway Campus trails. The Greek chapters sold tickets to fund their respective philanthropies and gave other Stockton students a fun way to end the Halloween Season.
The Delta Zeta members wore black jackets with the Haunted Walk logo and glow bracelets to escort their visitors down the Path, which was pitch-black and lit up by dim, glow-in-the-dark decorations. Along the way, they encountered many spooks and scares from the other members of DZ and SAE as they jumped out to scare the visitors and fellow members, wearing all sorts of Halloween outfits to heighten the fright factor. As visitors approached, screams and yells could be heard echoing in the distance, bringing goosebumps to their skin.
Madison McGloin, a Social Work major, was scared herself, even though she was the one doing the scaring. However, it was still a fun event for her to contribute to. “I don’t really like scary things, so, it was pretty scary for me to be a scarer, too; I couldn’t do that well of a job, but it’s awesome,” McGloin said, eliciting caring laughter from her fellow sisters.
This was one of three different events the DZ sorority would be holding during the Fall 2022 semester. All the money they make out of these events goes to the Starkey Hearing Foundation, which is part of their sorority’s national philanthropy, Speech and Hearing. Heather Chibink, a Hospitality major, explained that the Starkey Hearing Foundation is “a non-profit organization that raises money for people who can’t hear and would like to hear, so they give them cochlear implants and help them hear. It’s a really great cause.”
Delta Zeta will be hosting an Info Night on Thursday, November 10th at 8PM in Room L-104. They will also be hosting another event called “Mr. DZirable” on November 29th at 8PM in the Campus Center Theatre.
