Q&A of the week– career corner

Q: What should I consider when searching for jobs or internships?

A: Everyone who intends to apply for a job or internship position should have a set of career goals. Career goals provide a defined path to achieving professional development. While money is an important factor to consider when searching for job opportunities, it is equally important to consider how your chosen position aligns best with your current major. Although many students pursue career opportunities outside of their majors, it is best to grow within your field of interest, because that gives you a shot at getting to the top faster than you would in other fields. Additionally, most employers are more likely to hire applicants that are majoring in something similar to what their firm deals in.
