Handshake provides students with a virtual network

By lsimon25 on September 13, 2021

Handshake: New semester, new start to your career search

As a college student, there is no doubt that you are on the hunt for job and internship opportunities. Wondering where to start? Handshake is a comprehensive career search engine used by several colleges and universities, including Stockton! The uses of Handshake reach far beyond job opportunities; there is much to explore on this platform that you may benefit from throughout your student journey.

Stockton-vetted opportunities govern the “Jobs” tab of Handshake. Whether you are seeking full or part-time positions, internships, or on-campus employment, your job search is tailored to your preferences. Aside from job role and location, you can filter your job feed based on industry, employer, and even your major. Save jobs as you navigate your feed to return to later!

Catch the latest jobs and events from specific employers under the “Employers” tab on your home page. This allows you to find new employers, and important information such as their full company description. The “Messages” tab allows employers to contact you directly for interviews, job openings, and events; this is another way Handshake is providing students with opportunities right at their fingertips.

You are not only in touch with job openings on this platform, but also employer-hosted events, workshops, and sessions, all of which reside in the “Events” tab. Hiring fairs, career information sessions, and virtual one-on-one employer meetings are just a few of the possibilities you may come across. Create your own schedule of events and on-campus interviews to stay organized in your search!

Showcase your skills while searching for your own, unique opportunities by creating a personalized profile. You can connect with employers as well as students and alumni with the shared experience of building a career journey. After detailing your current experience and educational background, choose from a broad selection of career interests to receive your personalized feed of jobs, events, and articles.

Keep track of your applications and your scheduled on-campus interviews under the “Profile” tab as you begin your search process. As you continue your career search, the “My Documents” feature will save all uploaded resumes, cover letters, transcripts, and other documents you wish to include in your applications.

The Handshake Students Blog takes your career-searching experience a step further. Articles and videos on numerous career-related topics can be accessed from this area of the platform. Interview tips and videos, resume and cover letter writing advice, and descriptions of varying career roles are only the start. Immerse yourself in stories about what students have gained from using Handshake, how to excel in your career after graduation, and advice from career professionals. Gain insight during your career exploration with a range of content.

Finally, do not forget to view the “Suggested by your career center” section on your home page! Here you can choose a Career Community based on your professional interests and goals, and meet with your corresponding Career Advisor at the Career Education and Development Center, or the CED. Similarly, the “Career Center” tab will guide you to CED contact information, resources, and events. Dive into a new start of your career search with Handshake!
