The Stockton University Stephen Dunn Visiting Reading Series held its Faculty and Alumni Reading on Wednesday, March 18, in the Multicultural Center. The event featured two Stockton University literature professors, Nathan Long and Jacob Camacho.
The Reading Series is sponsored by the Stockton University School of the Arts and Humanities, Madeleine J. Deininger, a member of Stockton’s Board of Trustees, the LITT program, and Murphy Writing of Stockton University.

Nathan Long is a creative writing professor who is currently teaching Flash Fiction Workshop and Writing Short Stories. Jacob Camacho is an assistant professor of creative writing teaching Authoring the Graphic Novel, Writing Speculative Fiction, International Contemporary Poetry and the senior seminar this semester.
Along with faculty, Stockton literature alumni Liz Myers and Jibreel Tompkins were featured at the event. Myers is a former editor of The Argo and Stockpot and a Board of Trustees fellow. Both Myers and Tompkins attended the Murphy Writing Winter Getaway 2026 and have worked closely with Professors Long and Camacho in their writing careers.

Each writer shared a piece of writing that holds meaning to them. Liz Myers shared an excerpt from her microessay that touched on her relationship with her father and the patriarchy. She then introduced Professor Long, who opened by reading “Fireflies,” a short story from his collection of flash fiction, Origins of Doubt. He then read his essay, “Everyone Is Thinking About You,” which highlighted his experience of the AIDS pandemic.
Jibreel Tompkins shared a piece of his writing, titled “Can I Change?” When asked what inspires him to write, he said, “It would be selfish for me not to share my writing.” He then introduced Professor Camacho, who read from his current manuscript. He spoke about respect and family through his experience at his grandmother’s birthday and shared words of wisdom she had passed on to him.
The Visiting Reading Series offers writers an opportunity to come together and support one another. The series has taken place over the course of several years, and is a space where students are encouraged to attend and speak with the writers afterward.
