Due to recent severe weather this semester, Stockton has accumulated four snow days that shut down the entire campus. Just two weeks apart, two major snowstorms hit New Jersey, prompting states of emergencies to be issued across the state and closing schools, businesses, and forcing residents to stay indoors.
With Stockton’s closures occurring shortly after the start of the spring semester and again last week, classes were canceled and dozens of events were either completely called off or postponed.
After the most recent blizzard dumped over a foot of snow and left icy roads, many students struggled to catch up, particularly due to the campus closures occurring both on Monday and Tuesday.
Junior student, Samantha Flatten, shared, “While they [snow days] are relaxing, I don’t like them because all my class schedules got messed up.” On the same note, Anna Becker, a sophomore Environmental Science major, claimed, “Snow days have thrown off both my schedule and my routine. It has also prevented me from getting in the lab. It has been very annoying.”
As indicated on the official university website and under Stockton’s regulations, in the event of inclement weather, the university uses “a text alert system, website, email and social media to notify students and employees when there is a delay or closure. The expectation should always be that the University is operating on a normal schedule, unless otherwise indicated.”
With recent weather reports, however, it shows that conditions are expected to change and the 60’s are approaching as a new month begins.
