Meet Black Stockton event highlights Black involvement and campus resources

GALLOWAY, NJ– On February 3, 2026 the Meet Black Stockton (MBS) event was hosted on the university’s main campus in the Board of Trustees room. The event was organized by Stockton’s Unified Black Student’s Society (UBSS).

To kickoff Black History Month, various organizations and clubs gathered to inform students on available university resources.

Sophomore criminal justice major, Jaala Howard, serves as the Educational Chief of UBSS. Howard commented on the club’s goal when organizing the event: “Our hope was creating a space for Black students to feel like they have a space on campus. Sometimes it gets lonely being a Black student at a PWI, but having Black clubs and orgs that you can vent and relate to always makes it feel more like home.”

Howard continued to invite interested students to attend weekly UBSS meetings on Thursdays at 4:30 P.M. in C102. UBSS will also host a Black Gala on Friday February 27, 2026. This fabulous celebration will take place at 7 P.M. in The Carriage House.

The Caribbean Student Organization (CSA) also participated at this event. Nursing major and CSA president, Jasmine Jourdain, spoke on the significance of clubs that celebrate Black experiences, such as the ones present at the MBS event.

“The Black community at Stockton University shows up and makes their presence known in powerful and meaningful ways. Through student organizations, cultural events, leadership roles, and community outreach, Black students and faculty enrich campus life and foster greater understanding and unity. They celebrate heritage, raise important voices on issues that matter and create spaces where everyone feels seen and valued. Their energy, creativity, and commitment help shape a more inclusive and vibrant Stockton community,” says Jourdain.

An emerging club on campus, TogetHER Stockton, spoke with students at the MBS event and announced their objectives. “Our mission is to have black girls have a space to be themselves, connect with people who look like them, and share their experiences,” says secretary and sophomore finance major, Alicia.

Professor of Communication Studies and Africana Studies, Dr. Allison, shared that university funding is accessible for students looking to travel to conferences. “A lot of students don’t apply for that money because they don’t know about it,” says Dr. Allison. Information on applying for these grants can be found here.

Meet Black Stockton acted as a reminder for students to make the most of their community and all available resources of maximize their Stockton experience. The Multicultural Center and Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) office are available to support students
