Stockton faculty rock on for a good cause at Anchor Rock Club

ATLANTIC CITY — Five members of Stockton’s esteemed faculty put on a killer show last Thursday at Anchor Rock Club, playing hits from the past and present in support of a good cause.

Monsters of Academia, Stockton’s faculty-led band, took to the stage at Anchor Rock Club for a show benefitting the Stockton Federation of Teachers Endowed Scholarship. The band, dressed up for Halloween, crushed songs like “Psycho Killer” by the Talking Heads, “Good Day” by Twenty One Pilots, and “Time Warp” from the soundtrack of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The members of Monsters of Academia are Associate Professor of Critical Thinking and guitarist Bob Blaskewicz, Professor of Biology, keyboardist, and vocalist Matt Bonnan, Professional Service Specialist, drummer, and vocalist Mark Fisher, Associate Professor of Biology, bassist, and vocalist Mike Lague, and Professor of Biology, synth player, and vocalist Margaret Lewis.

The show was organized through a relationship with the band’s drummer, Mark Fisher, and the production manager of Anchor Rock Club, Greg Mungan. After selecting October 30 for the date, Blaskewicz connected the band with the Stockton Foundation to organize the fundraiser. At the end of the night, Monsters of Academia was able to raise $1,005 for the scholarship.

“We’ve had a lot of support from students, faculty, and staff,” said synthesist Margaret Lewis.

“We have to give a major shout-out to the original Stockton Faculty Band, who played on campus for many years. They’ve given us support, encouragement, and even some equipment. We’ve also had the opportunity to play for events on campus for President Joe, such as his Wonka Wonderland last year. Our students also deserve a huge thanks, as they’ve come out to every show and cheered us on. While we do this for fun, we are the happiest when we’re doing things that support the students here at Stockton.”

Monsters of Academia have been playing together for just over two years and are looking for more shows to put under their belt. If you need a cover band, feel free to contact them on their Instagram and Facebook pages.

Anchor Rock Club also holds Vinyl Wednesdays every Wednesday, presented by Stockton’s radio station, 91.7 WLFR.
