The game also served as the team’s “Morgan’s Message” dedication, part of a national campaign to raise awareness for mental health in athletics. Players wore teal to honor the initiative and spread the message of support, community, and advocacy for student-athlete mental health. Morgan’s Message was founded in honor of Morgan Rodgers, a former Duke lacrosse player, and aims to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health in student-athletes.

Seven different Ospreys recorded points in the non-conference win, led by Riley DeMarco with three goals and one assist for a career-high seven points. The win moves Stockton to 8–7 overall (1–1 NJAC).

Thompson recorded her 25th career assist early in the third quarter on a penalty corner that led to a goal by Brooke Ruiz. The assist broke the previous program record of 24, held by Alicia Leadbeater from 2010 to 2013.

“Breaking the record was an incredible feeling, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates,” Thompson said. “They’ve supported me since I transferred here and pushed me to reach this goal.”

Stockton got on the board just 2:02 into the game when Ruiz scored off a pass from DeMarco. Jessica Bruther added a goal late in the first quarter, assisted by Meghan Phillips, to make it 2–0 after one. DeMarco scored her first goal in the second quarter, giving Stockton a 3–0 halftime lead.

The Ospreys added three more goals in the third. After Ruiz’s second goal and Thompson’s record-setting assist, DeMarco scored twice—once off a pass from Kirsten Bailey, and again on a rebound to complete her hat trick.

Freshman Leah Bruchansky scored the final goal in the fourth quarter, assisted by Rylie Doster-Zearfoss, who picked up her first career point.

Goalkeeper Erika Roura made two saves to earn her third shutout of the season and 10th of her career, tying her for second all-time at Stockton.

“With the end of the season coming up, I’m excited for what’s next,” Thompson said. “Our team has been improving every day, and we’re focused on finishing strong and making the playoffs. I’m also trying to enjoy my last few weeks with this team.”

The Ospreys return to NJAC play on Saturday with a 7 p.m. game at Ramapo College in Mahwah, N.J.
