DeMarco’s double leads Stockton field hockey to 4-1 win over Montclair in NJAC opener

Stockton kicked off the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) conference play at home in style on Saturday the 11th, besting Montclair State University, 4-1. Junior Riley DeMarco spearheaded the effort with a brace, while E.B. Rafferty notched the Ospreys’ first tally and Makayla Alessi added an insurance goal. Goalie Erika Roura posted four saves to preserve the win.

The scoring began early. In the 12th minute, Rafferty pounced on a rebound off a shot by Kirsten Bailey, burying it to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. That advantage held into the third period, when DeMarco struck for her fourth goal of the season—set up by Maura Somers—to double the lead. Minutes later, Alessi hammered home her fifth of the year off a feed from Bailey. In the fourth, DeMarco found the net again, this time aided by her own orchestrating and Bailey’s second assist, putting the result firmly out of reach.

Roura was sound in net, while Montclair’s keeper, Sydney White, turned aside 14 of 18 Stockton shots in a valiant effort. Stockton’s attack, firing 24 shots in total with 18 on goal, wore down the opposition.

Meanwhile, Kirsten Bailey continues to shine in 2025. The senior is currently tied for the team lead with 13 goals, has added 7 assists, and carries a shooting clip near 0.109, or 64 shots. Her mix of playmaking and finishing gives the Ospreys another dangerous weapon to complement DeMarco up front.

Stockton will return to action at home on Tuesday the 14th, hosting Marywood University for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
