Atlantic City, N.J. — The William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University and The Press of Atlantic City will sponsor a debate between Atlantic City mayoral candidates on October 14.

The debate will take place before a live, public audience at 7 p.m. at Stockton’s Atlantic City campus, 3711 Atlantic Ave., in the Fannie Lou Hamer Event Room. It will also be livestreamed by the Hughes Public Policy Center and The Press. A recording will be archived on the Hughes Public Policy Center’s YouTube channel.

Democratic incumbent Marty Small Sr. and Republican candidate Naeem Khan have agreed to participate. Other candidates who meet minimum campaign finance thresholds and file campaign spending reports will be invited.

“Hosting the Atlantic City mayoral debate on our Atlantic City campus underscores Stockton’s commitment to our community,” said Tina Zappile, the executive director of the Hughes Public Policy Center. “By providing a public forum where residents can hear directly from the candidates, both in person and online, we are helping Atlantic City voters make informed decisions about the future of their city and strengthening democracy in our region.”

Alyssa Maurice, assistant director and head of Research and Polling at the Hughes Public Policy Center, and Buzz Keough, executive editor for The Press, will moderate the debate. The Press and the Hughes Public Policy Center will accept suggested debate questions from members of the public in advance of the event. Only the moderators will pose questions during the debate. More information on how to propose a question will be publicized closer to Oct. 14.

October 14 is the voter registration deadline for the November 4 election. Early voting in New Jersey will take place from October 25 to November 2.
