Stockton Volleyball makes statement in home opener win

After spending the first seven matches of the season on the road, Stockton University volleyball made a statement in their return home. The Ospreys (5-3) swept Cedar Crest (0-12) in straight sets, 25-6, 25-12, 25-14, marking their third consecutive victory.

All 19 players on Stockton’s roster saw the court in the home opener, but freshman standout Olivia Magro (Brigantine/ACIT) stole the spotlight. Magro powered the offense with a career-high 13 kills while hitting an impressive .524 on 21 attempts.

Supporting her at the net, Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) chipped in five kills each. Louer did all her damage in the opening frame, where the Ospreys dominated 25-6.

The setting corps was led by Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian), who dished out 12 assists, followed by Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) with eight. In the back row, freshman Helen Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) anchored the defense with seven digs to go with four assists, while De La Torre and Lauren Sommer (York, Pa./Central York) added six digs apiece.

After Louer’s early spark in the first set, Magro took over the final two. She tallied four kills in the second and six more in the third to help Stockton close out the sweep.

Cedar Crest was paced by Ellise Everett, who notched four kills and four digs, while Tianlly Davila handed out 12 assists with five digs.

The Ospreys now turn their attention to conference play, as they host rival Rowan University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the NJAC opener.
