Waka Flocka Flame performs at Woodstockton XV

Students gathered at the Big Blue Sports Center on Tuesday, April 1 to experience headliner Waka Flocka Flame’s performance at Woodstockton XV.

Prior to Flocka taking the stage, local artists Almighty Fiji, SKY, and SCOTTIE.PAC warmed up the crowd with a performance. They performed as individuals, but came together to close out their sets.

Waka Flocka Flame performs “Grove St. Party” with the Stockton Entertainment Team.

Almost immediately after coming onstage, Flocka became very interactive with the audience, coming off the stage during his hit “Wild Boy” and making his way through the crowd accompanied by security. While in the crowd, he sang along to tracks by other popular artists including Playboi Carti’s “Fein” and Travis Scott’s “Goosebumps.” Making his way through, Flocka took pictures and videos with fans, even at one point FaceTiming with a concert goer’s mother. Continuously through the performance, he welcomed fans offering their phones to the stage, taking pictures and videos for them before tossing them back.

The Stockton Entertainment Team (SET) was asked to join the rapper on the stage for “Grove St. Party.” They are the organization in charge of putting together Woodstockton every year, but the party onstage didn’t end there. For his concluding number, Flocka was joined for “No Hands” by the Divine Nine, who are historically Black fraternities and sororities that form part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council.

Asking students for their opinions post-concert, Madison Czochanski—a sophomore attending her first Woodstockton—had a few thoughts on her experience. “I like how he was interacting with the crowd. I do wish he was on for longer and played more of his songs though. I was really hoping he played ‘Dear Diary.’” When asked how long she had waited to secure her spot at the barricade she said, “I was only there for about an hour before the doors opened, but to be fair it was pretty cold.”

Next fall semester, SET will send out forms for students to pick the next artist of Woodstockton, and to learn more about the concert itself, visit the link here.
