On April 3, Stockton University Theatre Club performed its opening night for the play “Puffs: or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years At A Certain School Of Magic and Magic” in the experimental theater.
The play, a parody of the “Harry Potter” series, follows Wayne Hopkins, a young Hufflepuff wizard played by Ellie Prendergast, through his seven years at Hogwarts, highlighting the perspective of all Hufflepuffs during those years. The performance follows not only Wayne’s journey, but his two best friends, played by Megan Pawlowki and Luis Melo, along with more Puffs, who all delivered outstanding performances and quick-witted lines.
The directors, Alyssa Villava and Antionette Mozee, did an excellent job with the pacing as all audience members never failed to laugh and remained engaged. From the moment the production began, audience members were constantly laughing at the clever comedy and engaged with the cast members’ high energy. The production fully captured all seven years of the puffs attending Hogwarts in nearly two hours, all while keeping the play extremely humorous and entertaining.
The production is packed with humor and references from the “Harry Potter” world, but it also draws laughs from those who might not be as familiar with the books or films. An audience member stated that the play “always kept your attention and kept you laughing the whole time,” reflecting on the widespread enjoyment of the performance.
The entire cast plays a crucial role in delivering the comedy, with excellent timing as the actors’ ability to play off each other elevates the humor throughout the show. Another audience member stated after the show, “I thought it was so good, really entertaining, and very funny.”
From the set design, costume design to the cast members delivering each line, the story continued to be filled with laughter and immersive into the wizarding world. The show ran additional performances on Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and finally, Sunday, April 6th at 2:00 p.m.
