Stockton falls in NJAC semifinals after hard-fought battle against Ramapo

Stockton University’s NJAC Tournament run came to an end Tuesday night after falling to Ramapo College, 88-81, in the conference semifinals.

The Ospreys (19-8) started strong, jumping to a 20-10 lead in the first half. EJ Matthew-Spratley led the charge with 28 points, marking his second consecutive game as Stockton’s top scorer. Eriq Campbell added 22 points, keeping the Ospreys within reach as the teams battled back and forth.

Ramapo (20-7) responded before halftime, cutting Stockton’s lead and entering the break with a narrow 41-40 advantage. The Roadrunners maintained control in the second half, holding a steady lead down the stretch to secure the victory and advance to the NJAC championship game against Montclair State.

Stockton’s tournament journey began with a quarterfinal victory over Rowan, 83-78, on Feb. 22. Matthew-Spratley poured in 28 points, while Campbell contributed 14 and Tayvon Gaither added 10. The Ospreys led 47-43 at halftime, but the Profs briefly took control with 14:20 remaining. The teams traded baskets late before Stockton pulled ahead to secure the win.

With the loss to Ramapo, Stockton’s hopes for an NJAC title were dashed, but the Ospreys now await potential postseason opportunities in the NCAA DIII tournament.
