Ospreys women’s basketball opens ’24-’25 season with dominant 56-42 win over Brooklyn College

The Ospreys women’s basketball team opened their 2024-2025 season with a dominant 56-42 victory over Brooklyn College on November 9, 2024. From the opening tip-off, it was clear that the Ospreys came ready to compete, showcasing a well-balanced performance on both ends of the floor that set the tone for the season ahead.

Lauren Winant, #14, was the standout performer, leading the way with 18 points. Her ability to score both inside and from beyond the arc was a crucial element in the Ospreys’ offensive attack. Winant’s leadership and poise under pressure made her the focal point of the team’s offensive game plan.

Supporting her were several key contributors; Imene Fathi, #11, added 13 points, Grace Speer, #12, chipped in 12 points, and Skylar Fowlkes, #4, rounded out the scoring with 5 points. Fathi’s sharp shooting and Speer’s all-around effort were pivotal in maintaining offensive momentum, providing valuable support to Winant throughout the game.

Defensively, the Ospreys were equally impressive, holding Brooklyn College to just 42 points. Their defensive intensity, particularly in the first half, helped them establish a commanding lead early, never allowing Brooklyn to mount a serious comeback. The team’s focus and defensive discipline ensured they maintained control from start to finish.

This dominant victory sets a positive tone for the Ospreys as they prepare for their next matchup at home on Wednesday, November 13, against Gallaudet University. The game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they look to build on this strong start to the season.

Meanwhile, the Ospreys men’s basketball team will kick off their season on Friday, November 15, with a doubleheader event against Catholic University of America and Widener University. The Tip-Off for Autism Awareness will take place at 6:00 p.m. in Chester, Pennsylvania. Be sure to mark your calendars and support both teams as they begin their campaigns.
