The Stockton Performing Arts Center presented Selected Shorts: Let Us Tell You A Story on October 5, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. The show lasted roughly 120 minutes, ending around 9:20 pm.
Selected Shorts is a radio show that creates fiction stories filled with mystery, crazy twists, and literature for adults. The theme for this show was “Danger and Discovery.” The show consisted of four short stories, all performed by an actor, and the stories were written by profound authors in their field. Before the show started, a theater-goer commented, “I am most excited for the show ‘How To Know You’re Married to a Serial Killer.'”

The act mentioned above was written by Helen Ellis and performed by actor Colby Minifie. Colby Minifie starred in the TV series, “The Boys.” She came back on stage after intermission for the third act of the night! The third act was titled, “ Lars Farf, Excessively Fearful Father and Husband”. This was written by George Saunders, and both stories were filled with comedy, mystery, and suspense.
The second act, “The Fix” was written by Percival Everett and performed by actor Zach Grenier. Grenier has been featured in shows such as “Law and Order” and “The Good Wife.” After the show ended, another attendee commented, “’The Fix’ was my favorite act because the storytelling by the actor allowed us to be emerged into the story and visualize what was happening in the story.” In this tale, there was a character who wanted to fix all of his fears and learned that the more he loved, the more he feared.
The last and final story, “The Possibility of Evil” was written by Shirley Jackson and read by actor Jayne Atkinson. Atkinson is most known for her roles in “Criminal Minds” and “House of Cards.” The story was read in a variety of tones that allowed the audience to imagine what was happening and to visualize the possibilities of the characters actions.
If Selected Shorts sounds interesting, they have shows on their U.S. tours and a radio podcast. To learn about other performances held by the Stockton Performing Arts Center, click the attached link.
