On October 3 in the John F Scarpa Health Sciences Center, Stockton’s environmental science clubs invited the young activist group “Climate Revolution” to speak to students.

Executive director Ben Dziobek delivered an impactful and passionate presentation. The group has spoken to colleges throughout the state of New Jersey with the intention to not only spread awareness to the climate crisis, but to encourage young university students to taking action. The group in just a year has gained a massive amount of support because of how much they have been able to achieve, such as speaking to legislators demanding change. Members have watched as they have built a network of fiery advocates within their cause — the result has been as monumental as legislative bills being changed. Ben, a Stockton alumnus, returned to share what he has been able to do since graduating, and that everybody can do the same. He stated, “We need an army because we have mountains to move.”
What has made Climate Revolution so distinct in their movement is the way that they don’t just speak at an audience, but encourage the audience to speak for themselves. In the remaining half of the event, students registered to vote and then practiced using their voice to make their vote count. After breaking into sections, each group was assigned to find a bill regarding a cause they were passionate about, and act as if they were presenting it to legislators. The purpose was to prepare students to take a stand against leaders attempting to pass laws that destroy the environment.
For anyone that is interested in joining Climate Revolution, their work can be seen on their Instagram @climaterevolutionnj. They are seeking to expand their group in order to continue to move those mountains, and that begins today.
