Stockton Athletics: A weekly roundup

From September 23-29, Stockton’s volleyball, soccer, and field hockey teams had an eventful week of wins, losses, and personal records set by athletes.

Volleyball

Stockton University (10-1, 1-0 NJAC) kicked off conference play with a 3-1 victory over Rowan University (5-6, 0-1 NJAC), extending their winning streak to eight matches. #7 Nicole Palmer was a standout performer, recording 14 kills, 13 assists, 11 digs, and 6 aces, achieving her second triple-double of the season. #10 Jaylah Rolle contributed 11 kills and 8 blocks, while #23 Regan Mendick added 26 assists. After winning the first two sets 25-13 and 25-17, Stockton dropped the third set 25-18 but rallied from a 17-12 deficit in the fourth to clinch the match 26-24, with Palmer sealing the victory.

In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Stockton faced a tough challenge against fifth-ranked Gettysburg (14-1), suffering a 3-0 defeat that ended their eight-match winning streak. #9 Kate Louer led the Ospreys with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while Nicole Palmer added nine kills, eight digs, and four aces. Setters #23 Regan Mendick and #14 Kristen Burton each recorded 18 assists, with Mendick also contributing three aces. #8 McKenna Ritchie anchored the defense with 14 digs. Stockton held leads in the first two sets but lost both 25-23, then fell in the third set 25-18. Gettysburg’s Erin Gonzalez topped her team with eight kills and 10 digs. Stockton will host Montclair in an NJAC matchup on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

Women’s Soccer

Stockton University opened conference play against William Patterson, resulting in a 1-1 tie that extended their unbeaten streak to five games. #7 Rylee Getter scored with just one second remaining in the first half, marking her second goal of the season with an assist from #21 Erin Lally. However, the Ospreys faced a setback when Haley Nelson scored for William Patterson on a penalty kick 17 minutes into the game. Despite the draw, Stockton continues to build on their strong performance as they progress through the season.

Men’s Soccer

Stockton University began their NJAC play with a tough 1-2 loss to William Patterson. The Ospreys fell behind early as William Patterson scored the first goal of the match. #6 Aidan Pereira equalized for Stockton in the first half with a goal assisted by #2 Thomas Trimble. However, William Patterson responded with a second goal later in the game, sealing the victory. The Ospreys will look to regroup and bounce back in their upcoming matches.

Field Hockey

Stockton University secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Widener University, with #10 Kristen Bailey netting the decisive goal just 1:09 into the match. #44 Erika Roura played a crucial role in the win, making two saves to earn her first career shutout. Although Widener ramped up their efforts in the fourth quarter, #11 Autumn Hunter made a key defensive save to maintain the lead.

Building on that momentum, the Ospreys continued their winning streak with a 2-0 triumph against Albright College (3-6), marking their third straight win and second consecutive shutout. In this match, Stockton recorded six shots on goal, converting two in the second half. #4 Ameera Bilgrami opened the scoring with her first goal of the season halfway through the third quarter, followed by #5 Carlee Thompson, who sealed the game with a goal assisted by #1 Kiera Lyons with just 2:11 left on the clock. The Ospreys are gaining momentum as they progress further into the season.
