Stockton warns students of fraudulent job offer emails

Stockton University officials are warning students of an uptick in fraudulent job offers targeting members of the university community.

The scam involves individuals posing as faculty or staff members of Stockton University, offering fake job opportunities via email and text messages. These deceptive tactics include impersonating faculty members, directing communication through personal or non-university email addresses, promising lucrative compensation for simple tasks, soliciting personal information, and in some cases, sending fake checks.

The university’s Information Security Team has issued a statement advising students to be vigilant and cautious when encountering such offers. They urge students not to respond to suspicious emails or texts and to refrain from depositing any checks received under these circumstances.

“If you receive any suspicious emails or text messages, or if you’ve been sent a check under these circumstances, report it immediately to Information.Security@stockton.edu,” the statement reads.

Legitimate job opportunities for Stockton University students are encouraged to be pursued through the official channels provided by the Stockton Career Center website.

In the event of identity theft concerns, students are advised to contact their local police department promptly.

Stockton University emphasizes the safety and security of its students and faculty, urging them to take necessary precautions to safeguard personal information.

For more information and updates on security measures, students can visit the university’s website or call (609) 652-4309 for assistance.
