Stockton holds second Inclusive Leadership Conference

On Friday, April 5, 2024, Stockton University hosted the second edition of the Inclusive Leadership Conference. The event aimed to tackle the growing need for leadership practices in todays world. With speakers, interactive workshops, panel sessions, engaging discussions and an award ceremony, the conference provided a platform for attendees to explore ways to promote inclusivity and drive change in their areas of influence.

The importance of such a conference is significant given today’s socio-climate. As societies confront issues like inequality, discrimination and social justice inclusive leadership plays a role in advancing meaningful progress. Stockton University’s initiative to bring together scholars, practitioners and students from backgrounds underscores its dedication to fostering dialogue, empathy and action towards building inclusive communities.

Since Fall 2023, the Cultural Engagement Ospreys have been working tirelessly to put together the conference. Some highlights at the conference were the performances by Arts and Humanities and Stockton’s Tap Club, the faculty panel discussion on ‘Why Inclusion and Social Justice is important on College Campuses’ as well as the keynote speaker’s speech. The keynote speaker, Ismail Amir of I am Legend LLC, spoke on the topic “From Adversity to Leadership: Empowering Students to Impact Communities,” charging the attendees to channel their energy towards growth and making impact in their respective communities.

There was a session set aside for students to get professional headshots as well as several interactive breakout sessions covering a range of topics such, as power and delegating, international and abroad leadership, mindful leadership through meditation among others.

A key aspect of the event was its focus on practicality and real life scenarios of discussing theoretical ideas the conference speakers and facilitators offered concrete tools and actionable steps for attendees to apply immediately. Whether it involved mastering inclusive team management techniques navigating conversations or spearheading diversity initiatives within organizations participants departed the conference, with wisdom and a renewed sense of mission.

Furthermore the conference served as a hub for networking and collaboration. Participants had the chance to connect with peers exchange best practices and establish partnerships dedicated to advancing inclusivity efforts. By fostering an environment to networking opportunities Stockton University facilitated the sharing of ideas and the growth of a community committed to driving meaningful transformations.

In essence, the conference which is spearheaded by Dr. Ana Edmondson how education, dialogue and collaboration can play roles in championing inclusivity and instigating societal changes. In a world facing challenges, around diversity and inclusion such events offer hope and progress highlighting the power of leadership to drive positive change.
