Stockton University Lacrosse is off to a successful start with both the men’s and women’s teams winning their season openers.

The first game of the season belonged to the women’s team. The team traveled to Aston, Pennsylvania, for a matchup with Neumann University. The Ospreys started slow, going down 2-0 in the first quarter. The end of the first quarter saw a 3-3 tie, before Stockton pulled away in the second quarter and didn’t look back in its 21-8 victory.

Stockton was led by sophomore transfer Anissa Serafine, who recorded six points in the contest. Serafine, Mary McLaughlin, Mary Meduri, and Isabella Marinello, each recorded four goals for the Ospreys. Emily Deworshop added three goals and Margot Costello added two goals. Lucy Sullivan recorded five assists.

In the third quarter, Stockton jumped out to a 13-5, seven-goal lead. Neumann didn’t get any closer for the rest of the game. Neumann’s scoring concluded in the third quarter, as they were shut down in the fourth. Goalkeeper Daniela Elliot earned the win with two saves.

The women’s team hosts Farmingdale State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their home opener.

On the men’s side, Stockton opened its season in a home matchup with DeSales University. The Ospreys struck early and often on the way to their 15-7 victory.
