Men’s Basketball on two-game win streak

The Stockton’s men’s basketball team (15-8, 11-5 NJAC) has won its last two outings, defeating
Montclair State University 91-81 on Saturday, February 3, and The College of New Jersey 90-77
on Wednesday, February 7.

Saturday’s game saw the Ospreys trailing by one at the half. Out of the half, Stockton started hot
and claimed a 53-51 lead with 15-minutes remaining. Back-and-forth action saw the Ospreys and Red Hawks trade leads. There were 14 lead changes in the game. Stockton jumped ahead 69-67 with 8:07 to play and didn’t look back. Down the stretch, Stockton’s lead grew with key contributions from seniors DJ Campbell and Rynell Lawrence. Campbell, who scored 10 points in the final 8-minutes, totaled 26 points in the contest. In that final stretch the Ospreys pulled away, with their lead growing to as much as 13 points, before winning by a comfortable 10-point margin.

Campbell’s 26 points were a game high. Also in double figures for the Ospreys were sophomore, Tayvon Gaither with 18 points and freshman Devon Johnson with 15 points. Coming off that victory, Stockton traveled to Ewing in a matchup against TCNJ, which saw the Ospreys dominate the first half en route to their 90-77 victory. An impressive 56.2% shooting in the first half, including the final 15 points, allowed Stockton to take a 52-32 lead into halftime.

The second half saw no lead changes. Stockton’s lead grew to as big as 26 points. TCNJ battled and closed the gap to 9 points, but the Ospreys were able to hang on. Sophomore guard, EJ Matthews-Spratley shot an impressive 11-13 from the field, finishing with 25 points. Senior forward, DJ Campbell scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers and sophomore forward, Tayvon Gaither scored 18 points.

Stockton has two games remaining on the schedule before the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament begins. The Ospreys travel to Jersey City on Saturday, February 10, to face New Jersey City University, before hosting Kean University on Wednesday, February 14.
