Stockton hosts event spreading awareness on Human Trafficking

Written for The Argo by Mackenzie Berkebile

On January 31, 2024, to spread awareness about National Slavery and Human Trafficking
Awareness month, Stockton’s Victimology Organization hosted an educational event called .
Human Trafficking: The Worst Kind of Traffic. The organization hosted games, crafts, and gave
participating students the chance to win Amazon gift cards. The President of the club, Allison
Solimene also showcased a powerpoint to highlight common misconceptions, share
resources and educate participants about human trafficking.

The Victimology Organization’s main event was a scavenger hunt which allowed teams of three
to search Stockton’s Campus Center participants for puzzle pieces. Once the team completed
the participants then completed a quiz about human trafficking. The first team to complete the
puzzle and quiz each won a $25 Amazon gift card. The winners of the game, Maddy, Tyler, and
Joey said, “teaming up with each other and being able to run around the campus center was
their favorite part of the event.”

Following the scavenger hunt, the organization hosted a Kahoot, and had a bracelet making
station for event goers to enjoy. The Kahoot game allowed attendees the chance to win more
prizes, as the top three winners of the game won Amazon gift cards. The Kahoot was based off
the powerpoint that was showcased at the beginning of the event. The President of
the Victimology Organization told The Argo that; “Human trafficking is a crime we don’t talk about often and
many people assume that this doesn’t happen often.” Allison Solimene, was passionate in her
answer, and wanted to share the knowledge about this misunderstood crime.

Solimene encourages Stockton’s students to attend their future events, such as
their Black History Month bash at the end of February, and their Valentine’s Day sale to
generate donations. She also encourages students to join the Victimology
Organization which meets every other Tuesday from 4:30 to 5:30 in room F205. The
organization is dedicated to the study of victimology and spreading awareness about crimes
such as human trafficking.
