Stockton holds Get Involved Fair for Spring 2024 Semester

The heartbeat of any University community like Stockton lies in the many extracurricular activities and student organizations available on campus. These organizations offer opportunities for personal development and also give students a sense of belonging and community. On Tuesday, January 23, 2024 and Wednesday, January 24, 2024, over 150 student organizations, campus offices, fraternities, sororities and campus partners were present at the Spring 2024 Get Involved Fair.

Among some of the organizations that tabled at the event was the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)-Stockton Chapter. Rachel Dunlap, the Vice President, described the NAACP as a social justice and civil rights centered organization that aims at advocating for people of color. Jeremiah Doughty and Abby Winterbottom, members of the Math Club, informed the Argo that the Math club meets once a month for fun activities like game nights, Math jeopardy, movie nights and Math mayhem, the club’s biggest event in April.

Mandy Kenny, the secretary of Stockton Women In Mathematics (SWIM), said the club meets biweekly for movie nights, discussions about women in STEM, and discusses how to foster a balance between men and women in different fields. United Black Student Society representatives, Vanessa Bawuah and Shane Moore, described the UBSS as an organization that discusses the happenings in the black community and states that the club meets every Thursday at 4:30 pm.

Reed Russell, a representative of the Environmental club, said that the club is interested in the environment, art and crafts, community service, and in reusing plastic bottles for arts and crafts. For the Commuters on The Go, the organization’s representative said that the club is designed for commuters to have a place to get involved on campus and combat a possible disconnection from campus life. The club holds its meetings at 4:30 pm in F115 on Tuesdays.

The fair ended at about 3 p.m.
