Learning Access Program holds Employment & Internship Preparation Program

In a strategic move to prepare students for interviews and job fairs as they seek internship and employment opportunities, the Learning Access Program held an Employment and Internship Preparation program on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. in F-122 meeting room of the academic spine.

The aim of this initiative was to expose students to a robust program that will provide them with the necessary skills and resources to navigate the ever-competitive job market while making them marketable.

The program which was spearheaded by Patricia McConville, Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities, has a diverse framework covering areas such as career exploration, resume writing, access and referrals to community employment resources, interview and interpersonal skills development, workplace communication, problem solving and teamwork.

The LAP employment coach was on ground to assist students in improving their soft skills, locating employment opportunities and preparing for interviews and career fairs. Although the program had a simple framework, since industry professionals weren’t available for the career fairs, the employment coach empowered the students with resources that will help them become more successful professionally.

One of the students who attended the event spoke to The Argo and shared that the meeting prepared her for some summer internship opportunities that she is already pursuing. The commitment of Stockton in producing students that will be marketable in different industries can not be overemphasized. The Learning Access Program provides one way to help Stockton achieve this goal.
