Stockton Dance Company presents their Fall Choreography Project

The Fall semester is coming to a close after a seemingly short period of time, with everyone wrapping up their Fall courses with exams, projects, essays, and presentations. For many Dance majors in the Stockton community, their semester is culminating with their performance in the Fall Choreography Project, which took place from November 30 through December 2 at 7:30 p.m., showcasing the massive talent, passion, and intense training every dancer has poured into their career. What better way to unwind before finals week than to see a great show at the Stockton PAC?

The show was comprised of 10 acts with many dancers of Stockton’s Dance Company casted, some of them being part of SUDT (Stockton University Dance Team), all choreographed by ten talented student choreographers, many of whom danced in the pieces themselves. Most of the student choreographers are juniors and graduating seniors of the Dance program, the latter of which are leaving their most notorious mark on the school’s history as they receive their Bachelor of Arts degrees. The dancers performed beautifully, earning strong applause after every act, and the lighting, done by Danny Wright, matched the music and dance steps perfectly, providing the mood needed for every choreography.

Julia Ricci, a junior Dance major, participated in the eighth piece, a group dance entitled “No Need to Hold On”. “This is my second year doing the Fall Choreography Project,” Ricci stated. “It’s so much fun. Every year, we get to work with different student choreographers and learn so many new dances!”

Two students attended Thursday’s show for an assignment in one of their classes. Maria Sanchez, a sophomore Health Science major, stated, “I loved how everything played out during the concert, especially [all the light changes] corresponding to the scenes. It was so beautiful, and I’d love to watch it again!” Danielle Nelson, a junior Liberal Arts major, said she “loved the show. The choreography looked beautiful and I’d love to go to another dance concert!”

The Dance program holds a choreography project every semester to showcase their students’ talent in both dancing and choreography. Many attendees of the show will be anticipating the 2024 Spring Choreography Project.

Stockton’s Performing Arts Center will be hosting the Atlantic City Ballet Company’s rendition of the iconic Nutcracker on Friday, December 8 at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 9 at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
