Women’s volleyball ends Ramapo’s undefeated streak

Ramapo College (12-1, 3-1 NJAC) and Stockton University’s (12-8, 4-0 NJAC) women’s volleyball teams played on October 10 at 7:00 p.m. in a neck and neck battle. The Ospreys came out on top in a 3-2 thriller, ending Ramapo’s undefeated streak.

Both teams started out highly explosive and motivated to compete. Stockton scored four points to begin the first set. Ramapo unwittingly tied it up with four points of their own. Between plays, both teams rotated back and forth. Ramapo’s diving for the ball as it came spiking down prevented Stockton from gaining any ground. As the set progressed, Stockton built a comfortable lead and won the first set 25-21. The Ospreys had the necessary momentum to keep winning.

At the start of the second set, both sides exchanged points back and forth. Consistently trading hits until one side was given a point. At the break of the second set’s first timeout, Stockton was ahead 15-13. Through more fierce back-and-forth with the ball, the second set went to Ramapo 20-25.

In the third set, The Ospreys launched a strong 12-5 lead at the first time out. Stockton had a huge advantage over Ramapo by more than ten points, almost closing out the set. Stockton dominated the third set to get a 25-12 result.

The fourth set included a back-and-forth race to the finish line. Stockton was down by four points after using both timeouts. The fourth set was won by Ramapo. With the score tied 2-2, a fifth set was played.

With another tight back-and-forth between securing points, the teams kept the audience on the edge of their seats until the final moments. The atmosphere was undeniable due to the overwhelming enthusiasm both teams had for the game and the enormous stakes involved in a victory.

Nicole Palmer (#7) and Kate Louer (#9) both demolished the game with 12 kills each with Louer adding 10 digs. Ashley Carkhuff (#22) had 9 kills and 2 blocks. Teleyah Witherspoon (#11) had 5 kills and 8 blocks. The Ospreys came out with a tremendous 15-13 result in the fifth set to win 3-2 against the Roadrunners.
