Women’s field hockey adds on eighth straight win

Stockton University’s field hockey team continues to dominate by tacking onto their victorious streak. The Ospreys came out of their Thursday night game adding an impressive eight consecutive win with a decisive 3-0 triumph over Elizabethtown at the Stockton Turf Field. This remarkable eight-game win streak now stands as the second longest in the program’s storied 21-season history.

Leading the charge were standout players Kirsten Bailey (#10) and Allie Palumbo (#2). Bailey showcased her offensive expertise by netting two goals for the second consecutive game, while Palumbo contributed significantly with a goal and a pivotal assist. The opening half of the match witnessed Bailey’s proficiency firsthand as she crafted an unassisted gem, capitalizing on her own rebound in the second quarter. It proved to be the lone goal in a half characterized by a relentless offensive barrage, with Stockton firing an impressive 13 shots on goal. Elizabethtown’s goalie, Rachel Murphy, showcased resilience by fending off 12 attempts, keeping the game entertainingly close.

As the game progressed to the third period, a moment of synergy between Palumbo and Bailey further solidified Stockton’s dominance. Palumbo’s precise centering pass deflected to Bailey, who skillfully flipped a high shot over Murphy, securing her second goal of the night. Palumbo then etched her mark on the game, notching her eighth goal of the season, expertly assisted by Carlee Thompson (#5). This final goal, with 11 minutes remaining, capped Stockton’s commanding 3-0 victory.

Stockton’s goalkeeper, Hannah Ayari-Dias (#77) showcased her mettle with three crucial saves, earning her a commendable fourth shutout of the season. The defensive line, featuring the stalwarts Kaelin Drey (#3), Ameera Bilgrami (#4), and Makayla Alessi (#16), showed great promise, stifling Elizabethtown’s scoring opportunities and keeping the opposition at bay.

Stockton finished the game outshooting their opponent 29-9 in the contest. Looking ahead, Stockton will face a challenging trajectory, with four of their next five games set to challenge their streak.
