The Stockton University athletic community is abuzz with pride as five remarkable student-athletes are recognized for their outstanding performances during the week of September 11-17 in various sports. The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) weekly honors celebrate the grit, determination, and skill displayed by these exceptional Ospreys.
Allie Palumbo, a standout from Clearview in Mantua, showcased her prowess in field hockey, earning the well-deserved title of NJAC Player of the Week. Palumbo’s formidable contributions, including four goals and two assists, propelled Stockton to three consecutive wins, fueling their five-game winning streak. Among her triumphs was a game-winning goal against Alvernia, showcasing her ability to rise to the occasion.
Hannah Ayari-Dias, hailing from West Essex in North Caldwell, emerged as the NJAC Rookie of the Week, leaving an indelible mark as Stockton’s field hockey goalkeeper. Her stellar performance in the net, allowing only two goals in three victories, underscores her crucial role in the team’s success. Ayari-Dias secured her second shutout of the season with an impressive 0.64 goals against average.
On the volleyball court, Teleyah Witherspoon from Hackensack showcased her defensive prowess, earning the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week. Her impressive blocking and spiking performances in five matches were key components of Stockton’s victories. Witherspoon’s dominance at the net earned her a place on the All-Tournament Team at the Neumann Knights Invitational.
Nicole Palmer, an outstanding talent from East Islip, NY, made her presence felt in the volleyball arena, earning the NJAC Rookie of the Week. Palmer’s remarkable spike count, totaling 66 kills and 15 blocks, propelled the Ospreys to an unblemished 5-0 record. She was named MVP of the Neumann Knights Invitational, cementing her stellar performance.
Last but not least, Kayla Kass from County Prep in Bayonne secured the NJAC Runner of the Week for women’s cross country. Kass displayed exceptional prowess, clinching victory with a personal best time of 23:02.51 for 6K, a testament to her dedication and perseverance.
The Ospreys are set for a thrilling week, with upcoming matches against Moravian and Oneonta, promising more exciting moments and exceptional performances. Stay tuned as these remarkable student-athletes continue to shine in their respective sports, making Stockton University proud.
