Women’s field hockey’s defensive dominance continues with third win

Written for The Argo by Brianna Barretta

Women’s field hockey continues to show dominance on the field, recording their third consecutive shutout victory in a commanding 4-0 win over Immaculata University. The Ospreys, who are 3-2, demanded control of the game from the first whistle, displaying their determination to maintain their clean sheet streak. Before the 90-minute delay due to lightning, the team showed their intentions by sinking a shot into the back of the net.

The Ospreys offensive dominance continued in the second half. Miana Alessandroni (#23) netted two goals for the Ospreys. Allie Palumbo (#2), the team’s leading goal scorer, added another to her tally and assisted Alessandroni to double the lead. Ameera Bilgrami(#4), eager to make her mark on the season, secured her first goal.

Palumbo’s fourth goal of the year, which was a high backhand shot, put her offensive dominance on display. She provided the assist to Alessandroni, who capitalized with a perfectly timed goal in the third period. Alessandroni’s second goal of the night came early in the fourth quarter, solidifying her status as a key offensive force for the Ospreys. Bilgrami added the finishing touch, scoring on a penalty corner with a powerful shot from the top of the arc.

In between the posts, Hannah Ayari-Dias (#77) exhibited her dominance, needing only one save to earn her second career shutout. Ayari-Dias’s remarkable performance extends beyond this game, as she has now kept her opponents at bay for an impressive 187 consecutive minutes. Her consistency between the posts provides the Ospreys with a strong foundation to build upon.

Stockton’s offensive firepower was on full display as they bested Immaculata 24-2, demonstrating their control of the game. Immaculata’s goalkeeper, Julia Levase, did her best to thwart the Ospreys’s shots with nine saves, but the relentless pressure from Stockton proved too much to handle.
