Written for The Argo by Brianna Barreta

With their first win of the season, Stockton University’s field hockey team can count their home opener as a success. Stockton handed Haverford University their first loss of the season with a final score of 2-0. Hannah Ayari-Dias was able to record her first collegiate win and collegiate shut-out, all while on her home turf. The team’s defense gave outstanding performances to help keep Haverford off the scoreboard.

On the other end of the field, the offense was doing amazing numbers to keep the team at the perfect winning balance. With a right-side pass from Kiera Lyons, Carlee Thompson was able to put Stockton on the board at the end of the first quarter. With only a minute remaining in the second quarter, the team added to their lead in the penalty corner, where Allie Palumbo deflected in a pass from Kirsten Bailey.

This win was made possible by the team’s exceptional defense, which effectively shut down Haverford’s attempts to find the back of the net. On the offensive front, Stockton displayed an impressive show of force, maintaining the perfect balance between defense and attack. Thompson initiated the scoring at the end of the first quarter, executing a perfectly timed right-side pass from Lyons that found the back of the net. Adding to their lead with sheer finesse, the team capitalized on a penalty corner in the waning moments of the second quarter. Palumbo expertly deflected a pass from Kirsten Bailey, cementing their dominance on the scoreboard.

The team will play their next game at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Eastern University.
