Stockton Softball Soars: Double Shutout Victories Extend Winning Streak

Stockton University’s softball continued their domination, extending their winning streak to six games with two resounding shutout victories over Gwynedd Mercy. In a doubleheader marked by stellar pitching and impressive offense, the Ospreys displayed their prowess on both ends of the diamond.

In the opening game, Mia Barone and Stevie Unger combined to stifle Gwynedd Mercy’s offense, orchestrating a remarkable no-hitter. Barone, hailing from Langhorne, Pa., showcased her pitching prowess by striking out a career-high six batters in just three innings, setting the tone for Stockton’s dominant performance. Unger took over the mound for the final two innings, ensuring that Gwynedd Mercy remained scoreless. The Ospreys’ offense was equally impressive by racking up 12 runs on 14 hits. Charli Czaczkowski, Emily Spencer, and Alexa Panagopoylos led the charge with three hits each, with Spencer particularly shining with a double and a triple, accompanied by two runs and two RBIs.

In game two, Lexi Liquori delivered a masterful pitching performance, establishing a career-high with six strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one walk in four scoreless innings. Liquori’s stellar outing set the stage for Stockton’s offense to shine once again. Panagopoylos continued her hot streak by blasting her team-leading sixth homer of the season, a three-run shot that propelled Stockton to a commanding 4-0 lead in the third inning. Spencer contributed with a crucial RBI single in the fourth inning to seal the 5-0 victory.

With both pitching staff and offense firing on all cylinders, Stockton’s softball team looks poised to take on the challenge posed by Ramapo College, the top-ranked team in the NJAC, on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. As they continue to build momentum, the Ospreys aim to maintain their winning ways and assert their dominance in the conference standings.
