Pilipino American Students Association hosts annual Barrio Fiesta

On Wednesday April 17, PASAS, the Pilipino American Students Association of Stockton hosted their 10th annual Barrio Fiesta in the Campus Center event room. The Barrio Fiesta, which translates to “neighborhood celebration” is a celebration of patron saints.

The event was catered by Familya Kusina and included a boba bar featuring beverages from Boba and Berries. Attendees were able to purchase crocheted goods and PASAS merchandise upon entering.

Performances ranged from singing to dancing. The Roamin Geckos, a student band who recently opened for NLE Choppa’s Woodstockton performance, opened for the performance portion of the night, Rutgers Camden’s Flips dance group performed tinkling, the national dance of the Philippines. Take X, the Stockton K-Pop dance team were next followed by Frenie Acoba,
a singer from New York, made the trip to Stockton to deliver a rendition of Estelle’s American Boy, which was met with a lot of enthusiasm from the audience.

Jam F.M., a new student band, performed their first ever set. A brief intermission was followed by the ASA dance tea. It was PASAS dance committee member Ralph Borja’s birthday, so the members set up a surprise dance number by Rowan University PAC. The PASAS hip hop team ended the performance portion of the night.

The event is PASAS’ largest event of the year, and with the semester coming to an end, the graduating eboard announced their successors. More information on PASAS can be found on OspreyHUB here.
